Winthrop Man Banned from High School Hockey Games

The father of a player on the Winthrop High School girls hockey team will face charges of disturbing the peace after he allegedly pointed a laser at the face of an opposing team's goalie during a game. The man, whose daughter plays for the team, will be banned from any future Winthrop High games.

The Winthrop High team ended up winning the preliminary round 3-1 over Medway-Ashland but the losing school appealed the game to the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association on claims that their goalie was blinded by the laser. The appeal, however, was unsuccessful and the Athletic Association stood by the referee's decisions.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's office announced the charges against the man on Tuesday and stated that he would be summoned to court at a later date. The Winthrop school superintendent said that, "both teams lose when someone acts in such an inappropriate way."
