Allston Man Fatally Stabbed in Chelsea

The Boston Globe reported today that an Allston man was fatally stabbed in Chelsea Saturday night, December 18, 2010.

At 7:12 p.m, police were notified by an area motorist that a man was laying unconscious on Sixth Street, near Arlington Street. The area has been secured for further investigation.

The victim, identified as Joaquin Aguilar, was probably walking down the street when the attack occurred.

When police found him, Aguilar had suffered multiple stab wounds. He was immediately taken to Mass General Hospital in Boston to undergo emergency surgery, but died from his injuries the next morning.

According to a statement released Sunday night by Chelsea police Chief Brian Kyes, the homicide took place near the MBTA commuter rail stop, a residential area, and is the city's 10th homicide this year. That's up from 0 in 2009 and 3 in 2008.

Chief Kyes broadly added, "Sadly, there appears to be an increase in violent crime resulting in a greater number of homicides in many urban area communities across the state and throughout the country."
